Description

Oriental Beauty Supreme is a top grade Dong Fang Mei Ren (東方美人) or Bai Hao “white tip” (白毫) oolong from the famous Emei Township of Hsinchu County. This Supreme Oriental Beauty Oolong is made from a Qing Xin (青心) or Green Heart cultivar. It is grown at an altitude of 600m and was harvested in September 2023. This tea is also commonly known as ‘Eastern Beauty’.

Oriental Beauty Supreme is classed as a ‘beauty tea’, which is a highly unusual class of oolongs, affected by the presence of little green leaf hoppers that nibble the tea leaves during growth. The tea plants react to this attack by producing more polyphenols, which during processing give the unique ‘beauty tea’ flavour, usually described as a honey-like taste and aroma.

This Supreme version is the very top grade of Eastern Beauty stocked by us. We also carry a more everyday classic Oriental Beauty Oolong as well as our extremely popular award-winning Gui Fei Oolong. When compared to other types and grades, this particular Supreme version exhibits particularly refined, balanced and sophisticated flavours. The quality is also evident from the ‘1 bud 1 leaf’ handpicked leaves.

Supreme Oriental Beauty has neat, twisted, mixed coloured leaves with plenty of silver tips. These are indicative of the high quality of the tea and you can further see them open up when brewed to reveal very neat tips and small leaves. The liquor produced has a dark amber colour and a highly fragrant ‘beauty’ aroma. This fragrance is typical of beauty teas and is reminiscent of muscatel and wildflower honey. With this Supreme Oriental Beauty the heady fragrance is particularly pronounced. The flavours however are lighter and more delicate. The refined character has complex notes that are dominated by the typical wildflower and acacia honey flavours. The smooth liquor is sweet, floral and very clean tasting. The aftertaste is lightly mineral, with a long-lasting lingering ‘beauty’ flavour. This is a top grade tea with a refined profile and complexity to reflect that.

Oriental Beauty Oolong tea is best brewed at 90°C for 3-4 minutes according to your taste, brewing multiple times.
