Description

Dian Hong Jin Luo Golden Snail King (滇红金螺王) is a distinctive pure-bud version of our award-winning Jin Luo Golden Snail. This version is a top grade tea, represented by neat coils of pure gold. It signifies a very high grade leaf material that translates into a captivating infusion that is complex and offers an array of tantalising flavours. This particular tea comes from Simao, Pu’er, Yunnan Province in China and was picked in March 2023.

Dian Hong (滇红), literally Yunnan Red, refers to the origin and type of tea (red according to Chinese tea classification). Jin Luo (金螺), literally Golden Snail, refers to the style of this tea and the way it is shaped into small coils, similarly to the famous Bi Luo Chun (Green Snail Spring) green tea. And finally the ‘King’ designation, or Wang (王) in Chinese, signifies the top grade of this pure bud black tea.

Dian Hong Jin Luo Golden Snail King is processed from hand plucked buds of the Yunnan Da Ye Large Leaf (雲南大叶) cultivar that is also used to make the numerous pu-erhs of the region. The leaves are hand rolled during the production process into small coils or snails. As it is a pure-bud tea, the ‘snails’ have a very appealing pure gold colour.

This Dian Hong Jin Luo Golden Snail King produces a rich amber liquor with a malty and lightly stony aroma. The taste is supremely smooth and light with zero astringency. The notes are malty, fruity, sweet and mineral. The pleasantly refreshing aftertaste is a little stony and tangy. Overall this tea has a lot to offer in terms of complex flavours that are truly beguiling.

It is best brewed at 90°C for 2-3 minutes according to your taste. It can also stand multiple infusions well.
